HARDNESS LABORATORY

Pencil Hardness Testing

Commonly used for measurement of the hardness of paints or other soft coatings, this technique uses various pencil leads and is performed much like a scratch test. Harder and harder pencils are used until the coating is scratched. The softest pencil lead which scratches the surface is the hardness.
