Paint and Coatings Friction Testing -- Falex Pin and Vee Block
Tester
Touchstone has developed custom tests used to measure the coefficient
of friction in paints and other organic coatings.
Electrical conduit is often purchased based upon how easy it is
to pass wires through it after it is bent into shape and installed
in a building. The easier it is to pass the wires through the conduit,
the higher the perceived value of the product. Touchstone has developed
a device which measures the friction of wires against the inside
wall of steel electrical conduit. It has been used for the purpose
of internal coating selection.
Touchstone has also developed custom tests to measure the coefficient
of friction of painted flat surfaces.
Touchstone is also experienced in the performance of frictional
measurements of thin film lubricants utilizing a Falex Pin and Vee
Block Tester (shown above).
The Pin and Vee Block Tester can measure two qualities of a lubricant.
Its lubricity, and the maximum pressure it will withstand before
the lubricating properties fail. This work can be performed at various
temperatures. It operates by having a small, rotating, cylindrical
pin squeezed between two metal arms with vee-notched blocks attached.
If you have a need to measure the surface friction, please
contact us at TRL.
