MECHANICAL TESTING LABORATORY

Due to the very large number of tests offered, descriptions of those most commonly requested have been gathered into the following groups:

ASTM D3410 – Compression Testing of Polymer Matrix Composite Materials using Unsupported Gage Section by Shear Loading

To request a quotation for any test email info@trl.com for a prompt reply

ASTM D3410 testing determines the in-plane compressive properties of polymer matrix composite materials reinforced by high-modulus fibers. The composite material forms are limited to continuous-fiber or discontinuous-fiber reinforced composites for which the elastic properties are especially orthotropic with respect to the test direction.

Touchstone has compression fixtures that are designed to provide the compressive load to the unsupported gauge length of the specimen. Testing can be performed at temperatures up to 600°F. After testing and analysis, the properties that can be obtained from this test method are ultimate compressive strength, ultimate compressive strain, compressive (linear or chord) modulus of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio in compression and transition’s strain. This test method is designed to produce compressive property data for material specifications, research and development, quality assurance, and structural design and analysis.
