ASTM C1292 testing covers the determination of the shear strength of continuous fiber-reinforced ceramic composites (CFCC) at ambient temperature. This method includes two separate tests.

  1. Interlaminar shear strength is determined via compression of a double-notched specimen.
  2. 2. The Iosipescu shear test method is used to determine the shear strength in any one of the material planes of laminated composites.

Properties determined by this test method are most commonly used for quality control purposes, material development, material comparison, quality assurance, characterization and design data generation.
