ASTM G85 Annex 5 (A5) – Dilute Electrolyte Cyclic Fog/Dry Test
ASTM G85 Annex 5 (A5) is a cyclic corrosion test that uses a solution of sodium chloride and ammonium sulfate which is much more dilute than traditional salt fog (spray). This test is commonly used to evaluate paints on steel.
Salt Solution: The salt solution is a mixture of sodium chloride and ammonium sulfate. This creates a fog (spray) which is much more dilute than traditional fog (spray).
pH Range: 5.0 – 5.4
Test Temperatures: There is no heating applied to the cabinet during the fog period. During the dry-off period the temperature throughout the exposure zone shall remain constant at 35 +/- 1.5°C (95 +/- 3°F) within ¾ hour of switching from the fog period to the drying period. This test does not use humidified air.
Test Cycle: ASTM G85 Annex 5 (A5) utilizes the following cycle: 1 hour of fog followed by 1 hour of dry off time.
